HISC is Closed - UPDATE 25th MARCH

HISC is committed to protecting our members, crew and visitors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Consequently, I am writing to update you on the measures HISC are now obliged to take in complying with yesterday’s announcement by the Prime Minister.

A number of our members feel that the club should be open as it may provide a facility for members to exercise, in line with Government Guidelines. However, we cannot argue that this is essential and if we are all totally honest about this it won’t help save lives. To be frank we have had many members on-site without good reason over the last few days and the reputation of the club is also a consideration.

In order to comply with the UK Government restrictions, which require all non-essential activities to stop at least for the next three weeks, HISC will be closing our doors and gates to all members and other visitors immediately, regardless of the reason to visit the site. None of the activities our members carry out can be regarded as essential under the current guidelines.

We will continue to monitor the Government guidance closely, converting the information into practical advice for our members. This is changing day by day.

Our aim is to return to normal service as soon as possible and in the meantime, we ask that you do not attempt to come on site. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] This email address is being monitored remotely and we will respond as soon as possible.

The Marine Team will be routinely checking the site and boats that are stored here and we will alert you if we have any concerns for your boat or other equipment stored on site. If you have any particular concerns about your boat please email [email protected]. We will also be taking measures to secure the site as far as we can.

It’s with a heavy heart that I make this announcement, it’s not something we do without a great deal of consideration, but right now sailing is not essential, doing all we can to save lives is the priority.
I will be updating you further on the work going on behind the scenes to plan for the closedown and how we can support the fight against this deadly virus as much as we can.

Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.

Best wishes to you and your families.
