HISC Solo Open Meeting 30 June 2002 - Barry Blaydes reports 26 Solos entered for the Tyler Trophy on the 30 June. As the boats left the shelter of the harbour in a gentle force 3, many wondered what was in store for them as they sailed far out into Hayling Bay with a forecast of Force 5 to 6. Shortly after the start of the first race Keith Videlo stamped his authority on the meeting by taking an early lead and winning the race by a clear margin, followed by Ian Houston and Tom Davis, who had steadily improved after a poor start. By the start of the second race the wind was rising and there were some decent waves to content with. Race Officer Adrian Murphy tightened the course to keep the fleets compact. The wind rose to 25 knots during the race and Keith Videlo made most of the conditions to win again followed by Gordon Barclay and Jerry Garner. For the last race the fleet was halved in size as gear failure and wisdom had taken their toll. As the tide was on the turn the waves increased more the race was a true roller coaster. However Keith Videlo won again, Jerry Garner came second and Ian Houston third. Overall Results
