RYA Powerboat Courses

Powerboat courses will provide you with skills and knowledge that will come in useful if you wish to drive the club RIBS for carrying out your duty or if you were looking into using a powerboat regularly.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 - 2 Days

No experience required

As an introduction to powerboating this course gives you all the skills and knowledge to keep you safe whilst driving and manoeuvring a powerboat.

HISC Safety Boat Course (18+ yrs)  - 1 Day

Pre-requisite Powerboat Level 2

This course is designed by HISC members, for members who wish to learn more about the skills required for being an effective safety boat operator.

HISC RIB Refresher Session (18+ yrs)

Pre-requisite Powerboat Level 2 - Over 18s 

For those of you wanting a little more experience before you take a rescue boat to sea or if you’re feeling a little rusty in the rib driving department.

HISC are are  offering refresher sessions lasting two hours.

They will comprise of three students and one instructor demonstrating launching/recovering. Practicing manoeuvring around the club and answering any questions that you may have.

These refreshers are subsidised and the cost is £23 per person to anyone planning to do a rescue boat duty this year.

RYA Safety Boat (16+ yrs) - 2 Days

Pre-requisite Powerboat Level 2 - Over 16s (must be an experienced Powerboat Level 2)

This is a two day course covering race management, rescue and towing techniques for various craft and recovering personnel from the water.

The use of club VHF radios will also be covered as will dealing with medical emergencies afloat.

It is a RYA certified course and strongly recommended for those wishing to volunteer for rescue boat duties this year especially at the larger events.

We will be running four club ribs with instructors and there are 12 places available.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 Direct Assessment (16+ yrs) - ½ day 

Assumed knowledge of powerboats and practical skills to the level of powerboat 2

Candidates will be put through a written examination based on basic navigation IRPCS, tide, weather and boat knowledge to the level of Powerboat 2. Following this candidates will  be put in charge of ensuring a boat is prepared for sea. The final part of the assessment will include a demonstration of the on water skills required for powerboat 2. 

In order to pass this assessment candidates must pass the exam with a rate of 80% or above and demonstrate a solid level of competence on and around the water.

Where candidates are unsuccessful they will be offered further training at a reduced rate to gain their RYA powerboat Level 2 Certificate.

Own Boat Tuition

Training Cancellation Policy

We will refund you in full if you cancel your booking 48 hours prior to your booking. Cancellation within 48 hours is non refundable except for in the below situations.

In exceptional circumstances some cancellations within 48 hours will be offered a 50% refund onto their membership club card.

If a ticketed space can be resold then we will refund you in full.
