Welcome to 29er sailing at HISC, a high performance youth boat, this to person single trapeze skiff offers enormous fun to be had both on and off the water, in the harbour or bay, whether racing, training or out sending it with your mates. 29er sailing at HISC is thriving and we have an ultra keen group of sailors ready to jump in as soon as conditions look good.
The hugely popular winter training saw over 50 sailors, experienced and transitioning, sign up to join in a comprehensive programme coached by our very own talented ex 29er sailors returning to pass on their expertise and enthusiasm for the boat.
We also have training planned for the Easter school holidays to enable some fine tuning ready for the Spring/Summer race season.
A cracking start to the 2020/21 Winter season saw many teams heading to GPs in Weymouth, congratulations to all those who made it onto the podium and also to many other fantastic performances too numerous to mention here. From these we have a healthy number of sailors who have earned well deserved places in the RYA Youth Performance Squad and Class National Squads.
We jumped at the chance to run Sprints in brief weather windows in between gales that raged through the latter months of 2020. These saw 15-25 boats filling the harbour and bay with fast paced action filled races. The aim is to run these when we see those gaps in the calendar!
The weekly club racing offers an amazing opportunity to get out on the race course and enjoy harbour racing within the skiff handicap fleet. It would be wonderful to see more 29ers making the most of this so please do use the WhatsApp group to let us know you are about and encourage others out too.
Many of our sailors travel the country to race in a very competitive national circuit. We are looking forward to hosting Grand Prix 7, at HISC in June.
Our 29ers could see a very busy late July/August on the road, kicking off with the Nationals in Largs, onto the Worlds in Aarhus Denmark, back for the Youth Champs in Plymouth and finally heading South for the Europeans in Valencia…Good luck to all who venture away.
And for others choosing to stay closer to home, Chichester Harbour Race Week in always sees a strong turnout of 29ers enjoying the big harbour racing and socials.
Youth week in August is a fantastic event, particularly for transitioning sailors with the chance to form new friendships and be a part of this exciting fleet.
We are fortunate to have one of the largest fleets of 29ers in the country, so there is nearly always a fellow boat heading out on the water, or around to support on shore with advice and top technical tips, and with a full diary there’s lots to look forward to so come on down and enjoy 2021 in this lively and friendly class.
