For the 2019 season we are introducing supported windsurfing for HISC Youth. This follows the phenomenal participation and interest in Windsurfing seen at the club in 2018 from our younger sailors.
Our younger sailors will be able to windsurf with the support of a club safety boat without worrying about getting back to shore. We will be using the knowledge and skills of other HISC windsurfers to provide support along with informal hints and tips on sailing and rigging.
- 16 sessions between Sat 1 June & Sat 2 November.
- Spaces for up to 15 windsurfers per session
- 2-hour sessions timed with incoming tide.
- HISC Safety boat support & recovery.
- Hints & tips from other HISC windsurfers.
These sessions are open to all HISC Youth sailors and subject to numbers, adults too. If you can uphaul, sail and turn around in Force 2 then this is for you. If there is no wind, we’ll go out on SUPs and do some beach based informal coaching.
In light wind, we’ll focus on core skills such as tacking and gybing. In stronger winds - harness, straps, planing and more. All with the comfort of knowing that the club safety boat will bring you back if needed. If you are a complete beginner, come find us and we’ll try and work something out.
Parents are also required to assist as these aren’t drop & go sessions. A spotter on the balcony with binoculars & VHF is needed, along with others on SUP / Windsurf gear for additional support.
The sessions are free but booking is essential. Booking for each session will be open 7 days before so that weather can be accounted for. Please book online or call the office to book.
We are also looking into running windsurfing clinics at HISC and currently reaching out to contacts in the industry and professional windsurfing community – look out for updates in the newsletter.
Windsurfing is unique as it embraces all ages (whereas dinghies tend to be age specific). HISC Youth Windsurfing is focused on kids, and naturally brings families into the equation.
For more adult focussed Windsurfing and SUPping we have HISC Boardsports - see http://www.hisc.co.uk/sailing/board-sports/
Catch you on the water!
