Youth Sailing Saturdays

On set good tide Saturdays, from May to September we will be running 2 to 3 hour sessions of seamanship skills.

With the aid of qualified coaches and experienced parents, children will practice a selection of skills both on and off the water while working through cards to help guide them.

The emphasis is on fun and informal learning. There is no racing, just sailing practice in a fun, safe and structured way.

Each child who takes part will get their own card, which they can collect each time they come.  Also by pre booking, the coach will be able to view the cards of the children booked on prior to the briefing and tweak their plan for the session based on what the children have done already.

These sessions are wholly run by volunteers, the coaches are being duitied in, as are the places for experienced parents and rib crews.  Without the volunteers these sessions cannot take place and may be cancelled if not enough experienced and qualified members step forward.

Standard – as a guild children should have RYA stage 2 or equivalent sailing experience to take part.

This is a guide to prevent children who are not ready to take part from being scared off sailing, or scaring other young sailors!  Parents not in the ribs (or Dorys) are welcome to paddle board or kayak with the group to assist and encourage.

These session will be available to the applicants of the Dinghy Instructor Mentor Programme to gain experience.

Number of children per session – for safety and quality of learning the sessions are limited to 12 spaces.

Booking – Book via the office from the Wednesday before the Saturday.

Advance booking or block booking will not be permitted, however, parents who have volunteered via Dutyman will be able to pre book their childs places for the week they are volunteering.
