Mining: Chimet: Meteorological and Sea State Data Algorithmic Sonification Project

Just a quick update for those of you who are aware of our MINING Chimet Music Album Project.

Chimet is a meteorological and sea state data algorithmic sonification project.

MINING captured historic live meteorological and sea state data from the Chichester West Pole Beacon "Chimet" in Hayling Bay, West Sussex, UK. MINING then converted it through an algorithmic sonification process into a 67 minute musical work. The work represents the dramatic weather experienced from Hurricane Ophelia merging into Storm Brian between 16th and 23rd October 2017 in the UK.

MINING were kindly supported in their Chimet Technical and Programme by Frank Dunster at Hayling Rescue, Richard Craven & Ed Carter at Chichester Harbour Conservancy, Emile Foote at Shoreline Surveys, Barry Blaydes at Solentmet Support Group Charity, and Hayling Island Sailing Club.

The Double Vinyl Album and CD will be available in the shops in the UK and Europe on May 17th, and then June 14th for the rest of the world.

Each of the 504 Limited edition Vinyl album cover / reverse digital image were generated by using the meteorological and sea state data at specific points throughout the work.

MINING are due to be featured in a detailed interview with Graeme Green (journalist / photographer) in the 18th May 2024 Edition of the New Scientist Magazine.
