Ladies who Lunch

This group was set up many years ago to give the female members of the Hayling Island Sailing Club a chance to get together during the rather bleak winter months.

From October to March, a monthly lunch on the 3rd Friday would be organised, followed by a speaker or presentation covering a wide range of topics from beekeeping to personal health and fitness, making high end chocolates, travelling around the UK on a bus pass, line dancing, plastic pollution, rising sea levels, Marine Policing and the adventures of Hayling Rescue – to name just a few!

Sometimes we even ventured further afield with outings to interesting venues or to have lunch elsewhere and watch a film afterwards.

Post pandemic, the numbers of attendees declined somewhat and to keep the quantities up for the HISC kitchen, we joined our monthly lunch dates with those of the Social Sailing group.

The Ladies who Lunch events have always been – and still are – open to all female members of HISC and their guests. The after-lunch talks are always open to husbands and partners as well.

Until recently, the expenses for the speakers (namely their lunch, drinks as well as a small thank-you present) and the raffle prizes were financed through the sale of raffle tickets at £1 to all those attending the talk.

As this did not suit everybody, the organisation of and expenses for the speakers are now shared between the two groups.

Ladies who Lunch (who do not also belong to Social Sailing) now contribute £5 for the whole season, except December.

The menu choices for the combined lunches are agreed between the club and Delia Clark, the organiser of these events for Social Sailing, and are sent out in advance.

All lunches need to be pre-ordered and there will be a separate table reserved for the Ladies who Lunch.

If you would like to be included on our email list or for any further information, please contact Angie Driscoll angie@acdriscoll.me.uk or Gusti Taylor gusti@sky.com who are currently organising the group.

The remaining dates for this winter season will be:

2025

17th January 2025 – speaker to be confirmed

21st February 2025 – Natalie Russell from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and possibly a paramedic or doctor (depending on operational demands)

21st March 2025 – speaker to be confirmed
