HISC Feva sailors have recently concluded their block of winter training which took place on from September 2024 to March 2025. The sailors were extremely lucky to have 4 fabulous coaches for these sessions, Jake Elsbury, Jack Miller, Ben Tuttle and Lawrence Shell. The training was carefully scheduled around the Feva GPs and class association training to minimise clashes for the coaches and sailors.
Five winter weekends were scheduled and each was planned to help the sailors get the most benefit, whatever the conditions, with a mixture of time in the training room and on the water. The high coach to sailor ratio meant that the coaches could cater for a wide range of abilities so newer sailors learnt new skills over the winter and more experienced pairings were coached to fine tune their technique.
There were regularly 14 to 18 fevas on the water which allowed for some fun training and racing.
The final weekend on 29/30 March saw all the sailors head into into Hayling Bay on the Saturday where some hit maximum speed, planing down the waves. On Sunday the group held their own feva regatta in lively conditions in the harbour. The results on the final day’s racing were 1st Rachel and Laura, 2nd Maisie and Emily 3rd Alelia and Daisy. There was a celebration and prize giving on the final Sunday, the coaches choice for “Sailors of the Winter” were Darcy and Tabby and they chose Beth and Will as the “Ones to Watch”.
In total, 46 sailors took part in winter training, well done to all of them and thank you to the coaches and all the parent volunteers who helped on ribs and on the shore.
