Social Sailing 'Fun' Challenge
The Social Sailing 'Fun' Challenge commemorates 100 years of the club.
The original Commodores Cup was won outright in the seasons 1926/27/28, and is now in the dining room cabinet. It was re-presented to the club to be sailed for by members of Social Sailing who are mainly past racing members. This was eventually held last Sunday as part of the rally from Cowes to Beaulieu. The weather was not kind as there was rain, thunder, lightning and virtually no wind. The aim was to proceed from Cowes to Beaulieu in a set time and collect differing points by rounding buoys on the way. Engines were allowed if needed with points being deducted for doing so. The winners were Candice Swales in Excalibur III, who under engine the whole way, confirmed it was 'fun' - but she ended up with a negative total of points. This was blamed on the inclement weather.
Thanks are well deserved for Tony & Sheena Button for organising the Rally!
