RYA Safety Boat Course

Course Overview

This two-day course provides the skills needed to act as an escort, safety or coach boat for fleets of dinghies, windsurfers/wingsurfers or kayaks, as well as supporting racing and training activities. The course covers rescue techniques, along with elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that at least one member of the rescue crew holds a first aid certificate or has relevant first aid experience.

Required experience

Should have a basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to this course

What to Bring

Clothing & Footwear
Wear suitable non-marking footwear such as boat shoes, trainers or boating boots/wellies. Avoid open-toe sandals and black-soled trainers. Bring warm layers, a hat, gloves and waterproofs, as conditions can change quickly on the water.

Essentials
Bring a refillable water bottle, sunglasses and sun cream. Your clothes and footwear may get wet, so a spare change of clothes and footwear is recommended.

Course Materials
The course includes some classroom-based learning, with all necessary course materials provided.

Refreshments

During the summer, the snack bar will be open to purchase snacks, drinks, and lunch. The restaurant will also be open for dinner in the evenings.

Accommodation

Our Dunes and Stocker accommodation blocks offer a range of different rooms. From our admiral’s cabin through to the cadets’, there will be something suitable for everyone.

Parking

We have a large carpark onsite and down our causeway. However, if you are in a motorhome you will have to find alternative parking for overnight stays.
